BEVERLY HILLS – Charlton Heston, the legendary actor and rare conservative voice in Hollywood, passed away April 7 at the age of 84 with Lydia, his wife of 64 years, by his side. Although a cause of death was not reported, in 2002 he made it public that he was diagnosed with neurological symptoms “consistent with Alzheimer’s disease.” Heston starred in The Ten Commandments, Soylent Green, Planet of the Apes and Ben Hur. He began his political activism in the 1960s, when he joined a picket against segregation and is best known for his opposition to gun control. But he was also a fierce defender of moral traditionalism and pro-life and a critic of the filth that came out of Hollywood. In 1987, he provided the introduction to Eclipse of Reason, an abortion documentary by Bernard Nathanson that described the horror of late-term abortion. |
