JOHN CARPAYLaw Matters

John Carpay was born in the Netherlands, and grew up in British Columbia. He earned his B.A. in Political Science at Laval University in Quebec City, and his LL.B. from the University of Calgary. He was called to the Bar in 1999. Fluent in English, French, and Dutch, John served the Canadian Taxpayers Federation as Alberta Director from 2001 to 2005. As the founder and president of the Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms, John has devoted his legal career to defending constitutional freedoms through litigation and education. He has been an Interim columnist since 2016.

Andrew Lawton is a columnist for The Interim and host of The Andrew Lawton Show on True North. He formerly hosted a daily show on Global News Radio in London, but has guest hosted in Toronto, Calgary and in national syndication. His written work has been published in the National Post, the Washington Post, on FoxNews.com and across the Sunnewspaper chain in Canada. He has appeared as a commentator on BBC, CBC, CTV and the former Sun News Network and CTS. He ran as a Progressive Conservative candidate in Ontario’s 2018 election.

Josie Luetke serves as the Director of Education & Advocacy for Campaign Life Coalition, and as a member of both the National March for Life and Life Chain Canada committees. She draws on over a decade of experience on the frontlines of the pro-life movement, having been involved in local and student pro-life groups, previously worked as CLC’s Youth Coordinator, and participated in a wide variety of street activism. Her passion is for apologetics and philosophy, particularly the consistent life ethic. She has been a columnist for The Interim since 2017 and presently resides in Mississauga, Ontario.

Rory Leishman has been a regular columnist for The Interim since 1997. He is also a former National Affairs Columnist for the London Free Press and has occasionally contributed articles to a number of other publications including the National Post and Touchstone Magazine: A Journal of Mere Christianity. Leishman is the author of Against Judicial Activism: The Decline of Freedom and Democracy in Canada, (2006). He resides with his wife Caroline in London, Ont.

Rick McGinnis, an Interim columnist since 2009, has been a photographer and writer for over thirty years, published in the Globe and Mail, New York Times, National Post, Toronto Star, New Yorker, and elsewhere. He has written about music, movies, television, books, photography, history and, sadly, politics. He lives in Toronto with his family.

Paul Tuns has been the editor of The Interim since 2001, and has served on the editorial advisory board since 1997. He is the author of two books, Jean Chretien: A Legacy of Scandal (2004) and The Dauphin: The Truth about Justin Trudeau (2015), and was a contributing researcher to Beltway Bloopers: Hilarious Quotes and Anecdotes from Washington D.C. (2008). His writing has appeared in more than 30 publications. He has appeared on CTS and iChannel as a political commentator. He lives in Toronto with his wife, Christina, where they raised their six children.
