Over the years I’ve learned that one of the perils of being a national columnist is that my writings can be used against me. In a recent Freedom of Information request I came across one of my columns, kindly submitted to the British Columbia Ministry of Health courtesy of the mother of all pro-abortion “researchers,” Will Offley.
Mr. Offley has been a busy lad, copying his files and submitting them whole to almost anyone who would listen. He’s trying hard to implicate anyone who has ever held a pro-life view with the murder of Buffalo abortionist Barnett Slepian. In fact, Will has even gone so far as to suggest to the boys and girls at the RCMP that they should investigate the Christian Heritage Party because it is opposed to abortion.
Can you imagine? The CHP is opposed to abortion?! I suppose next they’ll want to bring the Ten Commandments back into the schools! The nerve!
Not to be outdone, I was telephoned recently by a member of the taxpayer-subsidized CBC news program, The National. CBC researcher Heather Abbott was working on a piece to air sometime in January. Although she’d been talking to pro-lifers all over Canada, it was painfully obvious she was working from a script provided by dear old Will.
How do I know that, you may ask? Well, without giving too much away and jeopardizing possible legal action against Mr. Offley, I will attempt to explain. I was sent a copy of a fascinating document that Mr. Offley has mass produced and distributed across the country. It was even given out at the National Abortion Federation convention in Vancouver last spring. I obtained my copy courtesy of the Ministry of Health here in B.C.
‘Texas tactics’
The document, entitled, “Texas Tactics Move North,” is flawed, of course; but one of Mr. Offley’s claims is so wrong and so easily disproved that it’s likely the only place the CBC could have obtained the information.
If our dear friends at the CBC are indeed reading this, or perhaps even our friends in the RCMP, the Ministry of Health, or the Ministry of Attorney General, perhaps it’s time that you stopped reading from Mr. Offley’s script, and took a look at Mr. Offley himself. His links with radical U.S.-based groups such as Socialist Challenge, the International Socialists, and that police-friendly group known as Refuse and Resist, lead me to wonder whether he’s what you might call a reliable source.
But enough of that. I end on a much sadder note. I want to remember Tamika Dowdy, 22, who died recently from a “safe and legal” abortion at the Brooklyn Women’s Medical Pavilion in New York.
Most news wires didn’t take up the story, unlike the Dr. Slepian killing. There is no Canadian Medical Association reward for the capture of those involved in her death. No CBC reporter will be calling Jim Hughes for his comments, and I very much doubt you will ever hear her Ms Dowdy’s name again. It’s doubtful that the attorneys-general of this country will be asked by British Columbia’s A-G to issue a statement condemning this violence inside an abortion clinic. And I very much doubt that the Will Offleys of this world will even notice her death.
But we’ll remember. And we’ll remember her baby, because that’s what being pro-life is all about.
