A story soon to appear in the pages of The Interim about the complete and total failure of the feminist movement to maintain Everywoman’s Health Centre as a feminist beacon, comes, in part, from information we received a number of years ago – information we can now reveal.

For reasons I am sure you understand, a plain brown envelope was delivered to me in days past. In it was the report of the Criminal Harassment Unit. Dated March 1995, the report was not the one I had originally been privy to. That report was heavily censored.

The one I held in my hands was the same report, but with no censored material. It didn’t really add a lot of information to what we already knew. For example, we knew early on that the mandate of the Criminal Harassment Unit had been hijacked by the nice folks in the provincial attorney-general’s office. Originally, the unit was to look at all matters of “harassment” surrounding the abortion wars in B.C. Annoyance at this mandate meant that the unit was not being focused enough on where Big Abortion thought it should be, so pressure was brought down to steer things in the “right” direction.

But as you will see in the upcoming Interim article, a major recommendation of the unit, kept secret from the public, was the suggestion that the “B.C. government examine the feasibility of locating abortion clinics within government owned buildings.” This has been done – both the Elizabeth Bagshaw and Everywoman’s abortuaries now rest comfortably in buildings owned by the B.C. Buildings Corporation. Ah yes, our provincial government continues to be in the abortion business – but that’s fuel for another column.

Back to the CHU report. The report also included a list of “abortion providers” listed A to N, and their “evidence” on how they were “harassed.” For example, “A” is Kelowna Dr. L.L., who once again is upset that she was somehow identified as an “instigator” for the setting up of Kelowna’s soon-to-be abortion facility. Duh, anyone who read anything in the newspaper or listened to the radio already knew this fact. I’ve been interviewed many times along with her, yet for some reason, she was shy at taking credit for something the whole world already knew about. Also listed as harrassment was the horror that Kelowna pro-lifers had actually dared picket a Planned Parenthood planning meeting. Oh, those nasty people exercising their rights in a democracy!

Then Doctor “C” gave her evidence. Again, the whole world knows that Dr. M.C. is a Victoria abortionist. Her horror story includes the fact that pro-lifers mounted investigations through local churches to try to start legal complaints against her. Complaints also included a poster campaign against her and the distribution of a “Child not a Choice” brochure.

Dr. “H” is my fave. My absolute favourite. His war story includes the fact – now brace yourself – that the Catholic priest in his northern B.C. town would not allow Dr “H”‘s children into the local Catholic school all because he was an abortionist. Imagine that. This story was familiar to us, for it had been printed the year before in the B.C. NDP government’s “Realizing Choices,” the bible for seeing Big Abortion take over our province. It obviously was a major concern for the abortion industry here in B.C., especially to receive so much exposure.

How’s that for evidence of “harassment?”

The report also includes other recommendations, but is, I am afraid, short on evidence of even the harassment it pretends to examine. Nowhere is found submissions from pro-life groups. And that is largely due to the fact that the attorney-general’s office took over the direction of the unit. I was personally assured by one of the RCMP officers on the unit that my concerns would be heard. For whatever reason, he still insisted he was “honoured” to submit his report, although you would think that the ethical thing for him to do would have been to refuse to have anything to do with a document that includes “evidence” that an abortionist can’t get his kids into the local Catholic school.
