Parents and citizens in Surrey, British Columbia have resoundingly supported their pro-family slate of Surrey School Board members.
During a municipal election Saturday, voters continued support for the current school board members, who faced severe criticism from homosexualist advocates for banning three books designed specifically to indoctrinate children with the notion that homosexual households are morally equivalent to normal families. The board also opposes Planned Parenthood, promoting chastity education instead.
The Surrey Teachers Association (STA) took the school board to court last year to ensure that kindergarten and grade-one children would have access to pro-homosexual books.
In December,1998, the B.C. Supreme Court ruled in favour of the STA. While the ruling did not force the school to approve the books, it said the board’s decision to ban them was not valid. The board has appealed the decision.
