A University of Manitoba anthropologist is suffering resentment on campus after the recent release of a self-produced pamphlet condemning homosexual behaviour.

Dr. Hymie Rubenstein’s pamphlet, “What Gay/Lesbian Activists Won’t Tell You or Your Children: Homosexual Myths and Realities,” was distributed in late April at a public school trustee debate in Winnipeg regarding the benefits of sexuality and “homophobia” awareness programs.

Rubenstein distributed the literature to express his own growing discontentment with the public school system’s methods of teaching morality. He feels academic freedom has suffered as a result of increasing political correctness in education.

The “myths and realities” brochure examines the 18 most popular “myths” told by the homosexual community to encourage those otherwise against such sexual behaviour to see it as normal. Rubenstein’s research reveals that not only is homosexuality almost always a learned behaviour, but that only about two to four percent of all people can be considered homosexual.

His study also argues that most people do not support the “radical homosexual agenda,” which calls upon others to accept a lifestyle which is remarkably different from the traditional family. The pamphlet notes, “there is no such scientifically established pathological fear called ‘homophobia’…”

Responding to the fear that “homophobia” will increase throughout public schools if homosexual education is not permitted, Rubenstein said that the simple fact that people belong to a special interest group does not necessarily mean they are entitled to education specifically on their behalf.

Though he considers himself an atheist, this Toronto-born anthropologist recognizes that objective truth is at the core of human society. The trend, he said, has become to shift the burden of enlightening young people’s minds with moral goodness from the parents, to the teachers and school board.

“There’s a radical agenda now to (normalize) the homosexual agenda. It’s just another assault on traditional values.”

Rubenstein has always had an interest in human sexuality. Through his research, of which he said most is based on “logic and common sense,” he has learned that the human family is the basic building block of society. He recognizes that the family, even in its extended version, is necessary for the functioning of any society.

“Families protect individuals from the effects of the world outside. Once the Pandora’s Box has been opened to devalue the family, all other things will go with it.”

Rubenstein says the sexual revolution has undermined the traditional family, and that the homosexual movement has ridden on the coat tails of the sexual revolution.

“Now all forms of sexuality are considered equal,” he said.

Rubenstein has received a great deal of feedback from his colleagues at the University of Manitoba and from people all across Canada. He has also received some threats from students claiming that further action will be taken against him in September once he resumes teaching.
