Nearly three quarters of all Americans believe that religious leaders have a right to express their views against abortion to elected officials.
The poll was conducted by the Worthlin group. It found that 69 per cent of the 1000 people surveyed agreed with the statement:
“A Church that believes it is morally wrong to have an abortion has the right to advocate its position to the public, including elected officials.”
“These findings are sure to disappoint abortion advocates,” said Helen Alvare, the director of planning and information for pro-life activities of the American Conference of Bishops. (Catholic New York, Jan. 24, 1991)
