Now that a lot of dust has settled on the announcement by former Health Minister Frances Lankin that she would implement the recommendations of the Task Group on Abortion Services, we can take another look beneath the surface.
We’re quite to arrogance of politicians and their delicious contempt for the intelligence
of the ordinary voter. But it seems to me that the NDP has hit an all time high (or low depending on which way you view things) with the Task Group.
First of all, Ms. Larkin appointed by the Task Group herself then said, “How high?” when its members said “jump”. She agreed to implement almost all of their demands. Is this a conflict or what?
This brings me to another point. Parliament was bypassed. The first time, I remember King Charles the First. He lost his head, didn’t he?
We should remember that forty-four of the forty-six recommendations can be implemented without the consent of the Provincial Government
Bob Rae, looking like Little Lord Fauntleroy, thumbed his nose at a group of Canadian bishops and said to them, “I’m going to implement my ideology—not yours.” In other words, “In your face” or “My way or the highway.”
I hope we see all people of good will (and good sense) get off their hands and fight this.. Why not put a pro-life agenda on the table? Premier Bob’s anti-life, radical feminist, anti family, pro-death agenda is enough to make a dog sick. It’s against most decent Canadians believe in.
Now, before we say, “Here comes the Cavalry to the rescue, “Let’s look at the response of the True Blue Tories.
According to the press secretary of Tory MPP Charles Hardick (Willowdale) most of these respectable ladies haven’t even read the report themselves but left it for the Health Critic to carry the ball. What dedication.
At least Peter Kormos, New Democrat MPP (Welland) read the thing. He had to. He photographed carrying a picket sign outside his own office. Peter is what he likes to call himself “pro-choice” but he opposes stifling the right to protest (one of the demands by the Task Group).
I know that the report talks about harassment. But, what’s harassment? Linda Gibbons, a very courageous lady, is doing a six-month’s stretch in the Big House in Hamilton for peacefully offering help to pregnant mothers entering the Scott abortuary. Who’s being harassed here? Linda’s arrest and imprisonment is the best-kept secret in the pro-abortion media.
On this point, you don’t have to be Perry Mason to figure out that NDP’s attempt to stifle free speech is in conflict with the Canadian Charter of Rights. Maybe we’ll see another showdown in the Supreme Court.
Here’s an interesting little aside. While Premier Bob didn’t exactly make it to the Chain Gang, as Leader of the Opposition he was arrested for participating in a blockade of a logging site in Northern Ontario. While others were officially charged, he was released. Seems that now he views protest in a different light
With all the doom and gloom, I like to spread a little sunshine, Mary Ellen Douglas, pre-sident of Campaign Life Coalition (Ontario), stated, “Some good has come out of this outrageous report. The arbitrary action of former Health Minister Frances Lankin got us angry and got us going. Since then we have picketed the offices of the New Democrat MPP’s on a regular basis.”
Mary Ellen, who was never one to merely sit wringing her hands, also said, “We’ve con-tacted Bishops, priests, ministers, school trustees and pro-lifers urging them to visit their MPP’s. We’ve organized Town Hall meetings to discuss the report. This is just the be-ginning.”
I expect this is just beginning. With the co-operation of Ontario taxpayers who, hope-fully, will have had enough, the NDP can be brought to its knees (not in prayer, I’ll bet) and go down in history as what Christie Blatchford (Toronto Sun) called the “Single term gang.”
