Cecilia Forsyth, president of Saskatoon Pro-life, is retiring after 18 years of active pro-life work in Saskatoon.

 

“It is with mixed feelings that I say good-bye to the organization of Saskatoon Pro-Life and to its faithful members and supporters,” Mrs. Forsyth writes in the May 1991 issue of Saskatoon Pro-Life News.

 

“Just like many of you, I have a passionate belief that ‘Life is a gift from God,’ so I could not say no to the call to form, and then, lead the organization of Saskatoon Pro-Life.” The founding meeting was held on June 6, 1973 at the (old) YWCA auditorium; the theme of the program was ‘Don’t Cop Out.’ “Many people who signed up as members that night are still supporting the work of Saskatoon Pro-Life today,” she notes.

 

“I leave Saskatoon Pro-Life, she states, “knowing that I always did my very best to promote, uphold and defend the basic ‘right to life’ of all human beings, and knowing that the work done in the name of Saskatoon Pro-Life was always true to the objectives of the organization. It has always been my belief that the organization was there to serve the pro-life cause rather than to serve the organization itself.”

 

“The struggle for a guaranteed right to life is far from over, but one day, eventually, truth and justice will prevail,” she concluded.

 

Only a few weeks earlier the local press noted her comments on the decision of Saskatchewan’s College of Physicians and Surgeons to allow doctors to perform abortions in clinics outside hospitals. Stated Mrs. Forsyth in protesting the decision:

 

“I sometimes wonder if in setting up clinics they are moving it out of the hospitals so they don’t have to think about it.”

 

As she has done so often, Ms. Forsyth once more repeated the essential message:

 

“Abortions do not improve the health of women. It is a medical fact that life beings at conception. Abortion kills this life. Abortion is not necessary. The primary purpose of abortion clinics is to kill the unborn child.”

 

“We propose alternatives to abortion. More efforts made by society and government to provide for these alternatives instead of making abortions more and more available.”

 

In June, she and her husband will leave Saskatoon for a year’s sabbatical in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
