On Father’s Day (June 17th), Campaign Life organized a province-wide one-hour vigil in front of many of the Ontario hospitals that perform abortions. Vigils were in place in front of 52 of the 83 hospitals in the province, which perform abortions.
Mr. John Deans, Campaign Life organizer, estimated that in spite of the rain, more than 2500 people across Ontario participated in the vigil.
- At the Toronto Doctors Hospital, among the people who showed up with umbrellas and raincoats to stand with placards for an hour in the rain was a 75-year-old man. They handed out information sheets to hospital visitors and staff and some passersby. The handouts documented the number of abortions performed in Ontario between 1980 and 1982 inclusive (93,102).
- At Sunnybrook hospital in Toronto more than 30 people showed up in the downpour.
- In Orillia more than 150 people stood vigil in front of Orillia Soldier’s Memorial hospital.
- At Brampton Peel Memorial Hospital more than 225 showed up to protest in a heavy rain.
- At Kingston General 400 people held vigil for the unborn. Joe Borowski, well-known Canadian pro-life advocate, led the protesters.
- At Richmond Hill York Central 250 people marched in the rain.
- More than 125 people took part in the vigil in front of Scarborough Centenary.
Mr. Deans said that it was significant that, Father’s day vigils took place in front of all 17 Toronto hospitals that perform abortions.
