Global TV censored a good portion of the film The Silent Scream when it appeared on the 100 Huntley Street program in late March.  It superimposed a disclaimer over the screen, making viewing impossible.

A few days earlier Dr. Martin Gillieson, director of gynaecological ultrasound of Ottawa General Hospital, had called the film “rank and stinking propaganda” and a “distortion of truth” when interviewed by the Ottawa Citizen on March 28.  (See “Silent Scream” stories elsewhere in this issue.)  Another gynaecologist, Philip Hall of Ottawa University, said it “reminds one, in some ways” of Nazi propaganda.  This incredible vilification of the film, was, of course, immediately spread across the country by wire-services.  It was all Global needed to prevent viewers from seeing the film.

Earlier in the month Global TV, owned by Paul Morton, aired the Morgentaler propaganda film
