National Week for Life, May 10-17

Alliance for Life, Campaign Life and Coalition for Life, have designated May 10 through 17 as National Week for Life. The reason for this week is to pray for wisdom, strength, and unity within the pro-life movement, and to encourage the participation of all Canadians in promoting the right to life, especially pastors and other religious leaders. All pro-lifers from across Canada are urged to participate.

An essential component of this week will be a silent vigil in front of all abortion clinics, and hospital in Canada, to be held on Thursday, May 14, the anniversary of the 1969 abortion law. This is intended to be a silent vigil protesting a silent holocaust.

Vigil means to watch, in order to prevent harm of disaster. The aim of this vigil is threefold: to protest the taking of human lives in our hospitals, and illegal abortion clinic; to call attention to the improper functioning of TACs (Therapeutic Abortion Committees) which were intended for abortion only in hard cases; and to point out the help which is available to pregnant women.

Please contact your local Alliance For Life, Campaign Life or Coalition for Life office for further details as to events scheduled in you area. If there is no abortion hospital in your town or city, consider traveling to the nearest abortion centre.

Posters announcing this important week are available through Alliance for Life.

For the past eight years the Right to Life Association in St. John’s Newfoundland has held an annual Good Friday Silent Vigil, to protest the killing of the unborn. This year the vigil took place in front of the Health Sciences Complex, the only facility now performing abortions, since the TAC at Newfoundland General Hospital is unable to find a doctor willing to perform them. (see Interim October 19986) A crowd of about 3,00 pro-lifers attended this past Good Friday, coming from all across the Avala peninsula.
