On October 19, 1989 the Supreme Court of Canada agreed to hear an appeal of a British Columbia court decision that a fetus is not legally a person until it is born alive.

Studio D, the feminist section of the National Film Board, has produced a film entitled The Sanctuary of the Earth Goddess. It is directed against “the patriarchal society.”

On October 12, Henry Morgentaler stated that Nova Scotia’s law prohibiting freestanding abortuaries “treats women the same way the Nazis treated the Jews.”

Iona Campagnolo, the pro-abortion former president of the Liberal Party, will be cochairman with pro-abortion MP Jean Lapierre for pro-abortion leadership candidate MP Paul Martin. Campagnolo and Lapierre have been at work for Martin since the beginning of October.

On October 24 the Mulroney government named pro-abortion Maureen McTeer, wife of External Affairs Minister Joe Clark, to a royal commission on reproductive technology. Health Minister Perrin Beatty denied that political patronage was involved.

The Los Angeles based Federation of Feminist Health Centres has sent copies of a video showing women how to do their own abortions to Canadian groups and individuals. The Women’s Health Clinic in Winnipeg received a copy.
