We have repeatedly used this space to call upon readers to do more for pro-life. Re-establishing a pro-life culture, or merely bringing a little moral sanity back to our society, requires us to dream big dreams, to pray for renewal, and put faith into action. We cannot be quietly pro-life. The world must know we want to end abortion and euthanasia.
When the pundits and practical politicians dismiss us as unrealistic, their prophecies are proven correct only if we give credence to their cynicism dressed up as analysis. Confronted with the conventional wisdom that abortion and euthanasia and same-sex “marriage” are settled issues, do we give up hope?
In our busy lives – making a living, raising families, pursuing hobbies, maintaining friendships – can we not make time to prove to our neighbours, co-workers, families, and fellow congregants that we care passionately about the preborn child and others vulnerable to the Culture of Death?
We encourage every reader to commit to a New Year’s resolution to do at least one thing for pro-life that you did not do before (and, of course, maintain whatever you already do for the pro-life cause). Pray for an end to abortion, specifically for legislators and judges to stand up for good laws, for religious leaders to provide spiritual leadership, and for the pro-life movement for the resources to keep up this fight. And once we get up off our knees, we must work in the world without becoming this world, and be a witness for life. Contact elected officials to encourage them to protect innocent human life. Take part in pro-life events like 40 Days for Life, LifeChain, or a regional or the National March for Life. Inform colleagues and your church about these pro-life events. Organize pro-life events at your school or church or in your community. Volunteer at a crisis pregnancy center. Respond generously to fundraising appeals from pro-life groups. Donate your professional services to pro-life groups. Write a letter to the editor of a newspaper. Picket facilities that commit abortions. Sign pro-life petitions. Distribute pro-life pamphlets. Join a pro-life group at church or pro-life club at school; start one if one does not already exist. And read the editorial above and follow the advice in its conclusion.
Canada must know we want an end to abortion and euthanasia. We must resolve to make that a reality.
