Jim Hughes:
“The late Allan Douglas was a quiet gentle man” said one of our Campaign Life Coalition regulars. “He was one of those strong silent types” said another, adding, “people like Allan and so many other men and women across Canada are responsible for building the foundation of this country.”
For 53 years, Allan Douglas was the husband of now retired Mary Ellen Douglas, Campaign Life Coalition’s national organizer. Without his vigilant support, the pro-life movement in Canada would not have been as sound and vibrant as it has been with Mary Ellen’s efforts.
The mates and families of front-line activists have been essential to the great work everywhere and in every facet of pro-life/pro-family efforts. Allan was one of those rocks.
When I was out of the office to extended periods, Mary Ellen Douglas would come to the Toronto office to keep an eye on things. Allan would accompany her and he relished visiting the World’s Biggest Bookstore that was just around the corner from our office. He liked to read history books.
May God have mercy on his soul.
Our condolences, love and prayers are extended to Mary Ellen and the extended Douglas family.
