Under the auspices of the Independent Health Facilities Act, introduced by the former Liberal Government, abortions performed in private abortuaries will be financed by Ontario taxpayers.

Making the announcement at Queen’s Park, Health Minister Frances Lankin said abortion services will be expanded across the province while a program to recruit and train doctors to become abortionists will be studied.

While spokespersons from the Canadian Abortion Rights Action League made no attempt to conceal their glee, they called for funding of late abortions.

They also used the occasion to attack the Devine Government in Saskatchewan following Health Minister George Macleod’s decision to use the power of veto and prevent the establishment of   abortion clinics in Saskatchewan.  In lieu of logic they used misguided emotion, charging that governments cannot afford to fund unwanted children.  Someone should show them the nine-year waiting list comforting childless couples.
