According to a legal analysis released by the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada, provinces are free to fund, or not fund, abortion as they see fit. The report, “Provincial Decisions: Abortion Funding in Canada,” takes note of the law, regulations, and recent legal and political history of health care funding in general and abortion funding specifically. The EFC argues that a “provincial government may refuse to fund abortion procedures for its citizens,” since the 1867 Constitution Act gives provinces “constitutional jurisdiction to manage health care generally.”

There are currently defund abortion campaigns in Alberta, Ontario, and Saskatchewan.
