The campaign to defund abortion is going national, with the kickoff of formal Defund Abortion campaigns in Alberta, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, and Manitoba this Fall and Saskatchewan and Quebec next Spring. This Campaign Life Coalition initiative is an incremental effort we can all get behind, and not only pro-lifers. In 2011, The Interim, CLC, and LifeSiteNews.com co-sponsored an Abacus Data poll that found that a majority of Ontarians oppose taxpayer funding of all abortions regardless of circumstances as 40 per cent favoured funding abortion only in cases of medical emergencies; 10 per cent though abortion should not be available and 10 per cent thought abortion should be available but never paid for by the public purse.
CLC is calling not only for pro-lifers, but all taxpayers to let elected officials know that they do not want their hard-earned money to be used to pay for abortion. But defunding abortion is not only good because it saves taxpayer dollars; we support defunding abortion because wherever abortion funding is reduced, so are the number of babies who are killed through in utero homicide. Defunding abortion not only saves precious health care dollars, it saves lives.
