In The Interim’s September article, “Another award for abortionist,” about the reception by Henry Morgentaler of the 2005 Couchiching Award for Public Policy Leadership, it was reported that Sun Life Financial company was the sponsor of the award. This was based on information provided in both a press release from the Couchiching Institute on Public Affairs and subsequent Canadian Press reports.
We have since been advised by Sun Life Financial that an error was made by the Couchiching Institute in its press release, an error that was perpetuated by all media outlets. The award was, in fact, sponsored by the institute itself and not Sun Life Financial. Sun Life Financial was, however, a sponsor of the institute, along with a number of other Canadian coprorations and organizations, including Bell Canada Enterprises, Glaxosmithkline, TD Financial Group and the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka and Geneva Park, Ont.
We have additionally been advised that Sun Life Financial will be ceasing its sponsorship of the Couchiching Institute on Public Affairs from herein.
