On Wednesday, June 6th, 1984, delegates from all 50 States and from 2,000 pro-life groups in the U.S.A., converged on Kansas City, Mo. for the National Right-to-Life Convention.
People from different religious persuasions (or none), liberals, and conservatives – all came together, united by one compelling interest, namely to rescue unborn babies from being wantonly destroyed.
Two days prior to this migration, on June 4th, the National Abortion Rights Action League (NARAL) had called a press conference and issued a press release. They announced that NARAL’s “number one priority” was the defeat of President Reagan, “the most staunchly anti-choice president in this country’s history.” NARAL stated: “The 1984 campaign will help determine the direction of Congress for the next decade… If he is re-elected President, Reagan may well have the opportunity to appoint at least two new justices to the Supreme Court. That would be enough to overturn Roe v. Wade and thus make abortions illegal.”
On the other hand, they added, all of Reagan’s opponents have endorsed “abortion rights” and support the use of public funds for abortions. Any one of Mondale, Hart, or Jackson would be likely to name pro-abortion justices to the Court. Accordingly NARAL has called on all groups such as NOW, Planned Parenthood, and others to begin working hard to defeat Reagan.
