The Winnipeg Free Press issues a pro-abortion press release reports that pro-abortion feminists are calling for Stephen Harper to include abortion as part of his maternal health initiative at the G8 summit. The Freeps says:

Vicki Saporta, president and CEO of the National Abortion Federation Canada, told a news conference Tuesday that Harper’s decision to exclude abortion funding from his initiative will create generations of orphans in developing countries.

So it would be better if a generation of babies is wiped out, instead? I don’t get it. Nor do I get why it is better for a mother to lose a child than for a child who to lose a mother.

Again, abortion may be a women’s health issue, but it is not maternal health. Furthermore, the supposed need for abortion would decrease if delivering a baby was safer in many parts of the developing world. That is what the initiative would do. And never mind that the source of the source of the 70,000 annual death toll from unsafe abortions comes from organizations like the World Health Organization and the Guttmacher Institute that are ideologically committed to “safe, legal abortion.” I understand that the Conservative government does not want to talk about abortion, but they might win support for their plan sans abortion if they made these points that stressed why abortion has no place in maternal health.
