For many people who oppose euthanasia the issue is one of morality — intentional killing of innocent people is wrong. But QMI’s Brian Lilley raises a prudential question: “Do we want to give the government and government-run hospitals the power to kill us?” As Lilley says, “That’s really what is at the heart of the debate and special commission on euthanasia taking place in Quebec.” Would a government that is deep in debt think about saving taxpayer dollars by looking at sick, old people as a fiscal liability? Almost certainly.
