Campaign Life and Toronto and Area Right to Life, with the support of the pro-life groups of Ontario have established a committee to co-ordinate a second Ontario Pro-Life rally at Queen’s Park in Toronto on September 21. Many pro-life individuals have been calling for this rally because of the worsening situation of justice for the unborn in Ontario. Hence, the theme of the rally will be “Justice for the Unborn.”
The co-ordinating committee is soliciting an input of ideas and full participation by as wide a range of pro-life groups, religious denominations, and cultural groups as possible. Indications are that support for the event is very strong and a large crowd is expected. A reported 25,000 to 35,000 persons attended the first Ontario rally of October 1983.
The 1985 rally will not only be an effective mass demonstration in favour of life but will also focus on actions that can be taken after the rally by the many thousands who will be in attendance. The tentative programme includes a rally, stage presentation and music and a walk past the Harbord St. abortuary. Because of the expected larger crowd this time, parking arrangements at Queen’s Park have been made for a number of busses well in excess of the over 200 that arrived for the first rally.
Committee chairman Robert Taylor is urging every group that is able to attend this very important event to begin planning immediately. Local organizing committees should be set up now and local publicity campaigns planned as soon as possible. Buses must be reserved now since fall is one of the busiest times of the year for all bus companies.
More details of the rally will be forthcoming as the various groups concerned complete strategy and planning meetings. Prayers are requested for the success of this major undertaking.
