The Canadian Youth Pro-Life Organization (CYPLO) national conference attracted 450 enthusiastic young people in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan from October 12 to 14. Youth from across Canada were present to educate themselves on various pro-life topics including youth action, the media, Planned Parenthood, adoption, euthanasia, Post Abortion Syndrome and chastity.
During her address on youth action, president-elect Coby Vandenberg stressed that “an individual can make a difference.” She encouraged the youth to “respect and promote love for life in everyday interaction.” Youth should play an active and visible role in the pro-life movement. Society looks to the youth for hope, inspiration and new direction in order to face the future, she added.
Victim of abortion Achnes Smith stated that most women do not recognize the precious life of the child within their womb, nor the physical and psychological scars that abortion will inflict upon them. During a panel discussion on Post Abortion Syndrome, she said, “Women need to hear the truth about abortion.”
Doug Scott, author of Inside Planned Parenthood, commented that Planned Parenthood thrives on teenage sexuality since otherwise they would be out of business. He warned that their agenda includes the spread of unrestricted birth control and teenage access to abortions. This goal denies that youth are able to control their sexuality, and fails to keep their best interests at heart, Mr. Scott said.
The most notable tone of enthusiasm occurred when the youth were presented with the “chastity challenge.” Youth counselor Gary Hellard and songwriter Bev Daw both encouraged young people to live chaste lives in the presentations, and were met with jubilant cheers.
