Dr. Leslie Smoling, a former associate of Henry Morgentaler, was denied hospital privileges at Woodstock General Hospital for the second time. Smoling’s assistant, Christina Muench, said the doctor first applied to credentials to practice at the hospital shortly after he started his practice in Woodstock last July.

He was refused hospital privileges then because his case in Toronto was before the court. Readers will recall that Smoling was co-accused with Morgentaler and Scott on charges of conspiring to procure a miscarriage. He reapplied after the November 8 acquittal but was refused again because “his association with the hospital might reflect negatively on the hospital.”

Smoling has appealed the hospital’s decision to the Ontario Hospital Appeal Board.
