I have heard of Pharmacists for Life and am interested. Is there a Canadian group? Where can I reach them? B.R., Toronto, Ontario.
Pharmacists for Life refuse to cooperate in any way in the destruction of preborn children, and therefore they will not sell any drugs or abortifacients devices. So far as I know there is no Canadian group. The address in the United States is
Pharmacists for Life
9700 Harmony Drive,
Ingomar, PA 151127
U.S.A.
(412) 364-3422.
They have published a list of abortifacients drugs and devices.
If a baby is to be adopted, when is the best time? V.H., Hamilton, Ontario.
There are three parties involved: the mother, the baby and the adopting parents. Today, it is usually accepted that the mother must have a few days to make her final decision. On the other hand it is essential that the new baby should be in the arms of the adoptive mother and father as soon as possible, and ideally the baby should go directly from the hospital. We now know much more about the importance of early bonding, and so it is imperative that as few as possible of the precious early hours be lost.
Is it true that there are long lists of people wanting to adopt babies? V.H., Hamilton.
Yes, indeed. It is practically impossible even to get on a list. Campaign Life Coalition receives many letters from couples anxious to adopt a baby. A recent report estimated that in North America there are at least 60 homes for every child adopted, and that, if you add the parents who would like a second or third baby, the number of potential homes for the one child goes up to double or triple that number.
How true is it that an induced abortion increases the risk that later babies may be born prematurely? V.H., Hamilton.
A number of studies worldwide have shown that women who have had one abortion have a 14 per cent rate for premature births as compared with five per cent for women who have never had abortions. The risk increases with each abortion.
Premature births, low birth weight and a high per cent of brain injuries at birth are among the unfortunate aftermaths of induced abortion.
Despite all the medical evidence (e.g. different and incompatible blood groups) a friend insists that a fetus is part of the mother’s body. How can I convince her of the truth? D.B., Chatham, Ontario.
There are people who will always reject the truths that do not suit them. For them the world is flat. However, I offer an answer which did convince one pro-abortion woman to change her mind. (She is now a pro-life activist.)
If a fetus is part of a pregnant woman’s body, it follows that she is a woman with two heads, two hearts, four arms, four legs and so on. If she has twins the count goes up to three heads, six legs, six lungs!!!
Who was the Nobel Prize winner who said that handicapped babies should be allowed to die? D.B., Chatham. Ontario.
Dr. James Watson, the man who cracked the genetic code, stated that “most birth defects are not discovered until birth.” Since these babies had escaped being aborted, he added his solution. He said: “If a child were not declared alive until three days after birth, then all parents could be allowed the choice…The doctor could allow the child to die if the parents so choose and save a lot of misery and suffering.”
