I’ve written here before about Governor Andrew Cuomo’s aggressive attempt to make New York State the most pro-abortion state in America and S438-2013. National Review Online editorializes against Cuomo’s abortion-expanding Reproductive Health Act:

The anodyne-sounding “Reproductive Health Act” is a very bad proposal indeed. Where it regulates, it regulates the wrong parties in the wrong way. But it also deregulates with equal disregard: It would among other things allow persons other than physicians to perform abortions. That is an innovation borrowed from Jerry Brown’s California, where midwives and nurses are permitted to perform abortions. The State of New York will not permit a burly man to lift a box without a state permit to operate a moving company, but gynecological surgery apparently is to be considered a matter for immediate regulatory relief.

Cuomo will almost certainly be running for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2016 and needs to out-flank Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton on abortion to warrant consideration among pro-abortion feminists. Making abortion a matter on non-consequence — quick, easy and cheap — should be reprehensible politics, but this is what the Democratic Left requires of its politicians.
