LeRoy Goldman, a deacon at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Hendersonville, writes about the meaning of Thanksgiving in the Asheville Citizen-Times. He reminds us:
That this nation’s roots are deeply intertwined with God’s providence was not lost on George Washington, who in his Thanksgiving Proclamation of 1789 stated, “It is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favor.”
Remember that amongst the day’s modern trappings of pumpkin pie and football. (Go Green Bay!) There are some lovely Thanksgiving prayers and poems here that can help put you in the proper disposition.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone.
