This phrase from the Lancet article should be frightening to all: “The decreased frequency of ending of life without explicit patient request…” Euthanasia and physician-assisted suicide without the consent of the killed would be in violation of the laws that are supposed to be safeguards against such occurrences. The good news is that the frequency of unrequested deaths is declining; the bad news is that it happens at all.
