Clinic imports abortionist Fredericton N.B. –A shortage of doctors willing to commit abortions in New Brunswick has led operators of Henry Morgentaler’s Fredericton clinic to import an abortionist from outside the province. According to Right to Life officials in New Brunswick, an abortionist arrives in Fredericton every second Thursday to carry out the procedure at Morgentaler’s Ferry St. clinic. Local pro-lifers have [...]
I read in the paper recently about a balaclava-wearing hold-up man waiting patiently in line at the bank in order to stick it up. An alert bank clerk noticed this guy in the lineup and dialed 911, and the cops came and took him away. The would- be hold- up man explained to the police that he didn’t want to stand in [...]
By Father Tony Van Hee Interim special “Father, all-powerful and every-living God, we do well always and everywhere to give you thanks. You renew the Church in every age by raising up men and women outstanding in holiness, living witnesses of your unchanging love” (Second Preface for Masses of Holy Men and Women). God provides. Even now, in this “wicked and unfaithful [...]
Mother Teresa sent a special message to the Habitat II delegates, who met in Istanbul to discuss housing and sustainable development. Dear Friends, Jesus came to bring us peace of heart, which comes from loving, doing good to others. Abortion and partial-birth abortion are the killers of peace in the world, the greatest destroyers of peace, for if a mother can destroy [...]
It makes for a good sound bite or quotation when a pro-life activist says the defense of unborn children is a 24 hour-a-day, seven-day-a-week struggle. The anti-life element is always active; the argument goes, so the effort to uphold the sanctity of all human life cannot afford to take a holiday. It’s one thing to persevere in an important struggle. And what [...]
A Toronto doctor charged with assisting in a patient’s death has had his case put over to September 13. Dr. Maurice Genereux is thought to be the first Canadian charged under the Criminal Code prohibition of physician-assisted suicide. He could face a maximum of 14 years in prison if convicted. It is alleged that Dr. Genereux, an AIDS specialist, prescribed the drug [...]
A survey of Boston-area cancer patients and physicians has indicated that depression rather than physical pain is the motivating factor leading patients to opt for assisted suicide. The survey was conducted by Dr. Ezekial Emanuel of the Dana- Farber Cancer Institute and was as published in the July issue of The Lancet, a British medical journal. It overturns the main argument of [...]
VATICAN CITY- A new Vatican document, prompted in part by the partial- birth abortion debate, describes abortion as a primordial evil that has reached “new depths of depravity” in the United States. Released by the Pontifical Council for the Family July 2, the document also condemned efforts to legalize euthanasia in the U.S. as evidence of a growing contempt for human life. [...]
One of the lesser-reported items arising from the 11th Annual Conference of AIDS in Vancouver is the growing tendency of AIDS patients to commit suicide to end their suffering. According to papers resented at the July conference, many doctors treating AIDS patients appear increasingly willing to help them end their lives. Despite prohibitions against physician assisted suicide in most countries, doctors and [...]
Interim staff In an effort to promote prayer as a response to the abortion problem in this country, The Interim is considering a plan to reproduce different pro-life prayers in upcoming issues. The purpose of the prayer initiative is simple. In order to come up with a solution to the evil of abortion, we should look to a power higher than our [...]
The Interim In yet another macabre example of unborn children being used for medical experiments, researchers at Stanford University in San Francisco plan to transplant fetal pancreas cells into 10 diabetics as a way of eliminating the need for insulin injections. The experiments, scheduled to start this summer, are said to offer help to more then a million North Americans with juvenile-onset [...]
Anti-euthanasia groups are monitoring a promise by Liberal Senator Sharon Carstairs of Manitoba to introduce legislative legalizing euthanasia in Canada. According to a report in the Focus on the Family (Canada) family issues briefing, Carstairs is hoping to bring an assisted suicide bill to the Senate this fall. “I believe in the cry of (former assisted suicide activist) Sue Rodriguez,” said Carstairs, [...]
The Interim The Alberta Court of Appeal has ruled unconstitutional sections of the federal Elections Act which restricts some kinds of campaign advertising – and that spells good news for pro-life organizations which want to publicize candidates’ stands on life and family issues. The Act has prevented third party from spending more than $1, 000 on election advertising, but the Alberta court [...]
The Interim The U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s advisory committee for reproductive health drugs on June 28 unanimously approved the “safety and effectiveness” of emergency contraceptives, also known as morning- after pills (MAPs), but questions are being raised as to just how safe and effective they really are. Until the approval, the drugs used as MAPs had not been specifically authorized for [...]
Is a split developing in the Liberal party? Some might be asking that question after significant numbers of Liberal MPs departed from the party line in recent Parliamentary votes over the GST, adding sexual orientation to the Human Rights Act and a change in the Constitution to allow Newfoundland to reduce the power of churches in its schools. John Nunziata was kicked [...]
