Without abortion, orphans?

The Winnipeg Free Press issues a pro-abortion press release reports that pro-abortion feminists are calling for Stephen Harper to include abortion as part of his maternal health initiative at the G8 summit. The Freeps says:  Vicki Saporta, president and CEO of the National Abortion Federation Canada, told a news conference Tuesday that Harper's decision to exclude abortion funding from his initiative will create generations [...]

Far, far away. Please.

The scientist Stephen Hawking recently returned to TV screens with a new miniseries, his first since 1997, and like all eager presenters, he took the time to do some interviews to publicize the show. The series, Stephen Hawking’s Into the Universe, is the sort of symphonic, planet-hopping science entertainment that it seems so much easier to produce in an age of flashy [...]

Who elected the Times pope?

Back in the Fifties boxing used to be criticized for its regular Friday night fights which were called ‘bum of the week’ where it seemed that every washed up fighter who ever lived got a chance to pick up one more pay cheque ending flat on his back in the ring. This farce has only been equaled by the New York Times [...]

Perverted education

Under intense public pressure, Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty may have withdrawn his government’s revised curriculum guidelines on sexual education for a “serious rethink,” but this battle is far from over. Proponents of ever more explicit sexual education for young school children have been quick to mount a concerted counterattack. They commend the revised curriculum for proposing to normalize homosexuality in [...]

Quebec unanimously passes pro-abortion motion

In a motion that was unanimously adopted by the Québec legislature, Quebec MNAs have unanimously called on the Harper government to affirm the right to free access of abortion and to stop cutting funding for pro-choice women’s groups. They also asked “the federal government and the prime minister of Canada to put an end to the current ambiguity on this issue.” The [...]

Flawed abortion poll

The Globe and Mail reports on a Nanos poll that shows that Canadians think that the vast majority of Canadians think foreign aid recipients should receive greater (9.4%) or the same  (67.7%) "access to safe abortions" as Canadians. There are so many problems with this poll. First, the wording on a couple of levels. Of course respondents will say that others should receive [...]

Opposition MPs call for abortion in maternal health — again

The Toronto Star reports that the status of women committee called upon the federal government to ante up $1.4 billion for maternal health and demanded that monies be provided for abortion to be part of the initiative. The Star reports: But the Conservative members of the status of women committee calling for the all-inclusive spending were conspicuously absent from the announcement today. [...]

Marci McDonald gets Denyse O’Leary wrong

But why should O'Leary be any different. Denyse O'Leary, who is somehow both a "key figure" and "minor luminary" in the intelligent design controversy, counters the factual errors that Marci McDonald's book includes about the journalist. Bottom line, as O'Leary explains it: It is as if the universe is now fact free. Some woman's misplaced anger and fear is important now, and nothing else [...]

Interview with Jennifer Roback Morse

World magazine has an interview with Jennifer Roback Morse, who brings an economic point of view to analyze family and marriage. An excerpt: So we have many more single moms. So what? Many questions are involved: While mom's attaching to the baby, who's taking care of mom? In the natural family, there is another person taking care of mom, and that's dad. Why is [...]

World’s first sex robot

From IEEE Spectrum Inside Technology, a report on robots created by Douglas Hines and his company True Companion, which treats the story as a cute and natural marriage of libertine sex and the development of modern technology: For US $7000 to $9000 (based on customization) and a $40 monthly fee for tech support, Roxxxy offers patrons five preprogrammed preferences—gay, bisexual, lesbian, straight, and sadomasochistic—with [...]

Ontario’s sex ed scandal

Four stories from our June issue on the proposed Ontario sex ed curriculum and other issues surrounding sex ed are now online. The main story is "Ontario’s sex ed scandal" which looks at some the changes, the political fallout and reaction from pro-family groups. Here we report on the actual changes to the curriculum (which is being re-examined but hasn't been shelved, contrary to [...]

Maternal health polling

In April, a Harris-Decima poll found that Canadians were evenly split on whether abortion should be part of the government’s maternal health initiative: 48 per cent were opposed to including abortion, while 46 per cent were in favour. However, a new poll from the same company now finds that 58 per cent say abortion should be included while just 30 per cent [...]

Wrong priorities for Africa

Sometimes I wonder why the people of Africa do not positively detest Europe and North America. We have exploited, colonized and raped their continent for centuries and continue to sell arms to their dictators whom we have put in place and then condemn them for spending money on wars. We invaded their countries, destroyed their culture and enforced white privilege [...]
