This story is more than a year old but Acculturated is reporting it and I haven’t noticed it before:

A 36-year-old North Dakota woman who married herself in a commitment ceremony last March has now spoken about her self-marriage choice in an interview with Anderson Cooper.

The marriage took place among friends and family who were encouraged to “blow kisses to the world” after she exchanged rings with her “inner groom”, My Fox Phoenix reports.

Here’s the thing: once reproduction is taken out of the marriage equation and there is no reason why the gender of the participants matter, there is no reason the number should either.  While anti-same-sex ‘marriage’ activists have long raised the possibility of polygamy, self-marriage should have also been considered as a possibility. I’m not sure what the public policy implication would be, but in a society in which narcissism is epidemic, perhaps this is not a choice that should be indulged. However, in the age of SSM, I’m not sure on what grounds, other than it is too ludicrous, self-marriage would be opposed. It should be noted that it appears the marriage ceremony was unofficial and the state has not recognized it.
