ACT-UP acts out

ACT-UP is a North America-wide organization of militant homosexuals and lesbians who publicly and physically confront prominent members of the ‘straight’ community who are hostile to ‘gay rights.’ In the U.S., ACT-UP/New York invaded St. Patrick’s Cathedral in December 1989 during a religious service conducted by Cardinal John O’Connor.  They proceeded to disrupt it with screaming and yelling obscenities and trampling upon [...]

Ottawa conference opposes sex ed

When she delivered the keynote address to the annual conference of the Ontario Association of Catholic Families (OACF) held in Ottawa in late September, U.S. pro-life activist Maria Zacaria strongly condemned sex education, referring to it as “the fountainhead of abortion.”  Zacaria, who is executive director of the pro-family organization Parent’s Round Table, has participated in numerous rescues in the U.S.  She [...]

Update – Religion

JOHN PAUL II AND LIFE No one defends the dignity of human life more persistently than Pope John Paul II.  Wherever he goes- and he has now been to almost one hundred different countries – he repeats the basic teachings of the Gospel about human life.  This constant repetition in ever different words is a great consolation to the pro-life movement. Why [...]

The Editorial Feminists dig in

As indicated in The Interim’s October editorial, the Ontario NDP will not innovate but, rather, intensify the anti-life mentality which already prevails in the province of Ontario.  Most likely it will broaden the attack on the moral foundations of the family in such areas as schooling. For over a hundred years the socialist/materialist philosophy has called for abolition of the family.  Free [...]

U.S. Update Fetal experiments halted in Illinois

Attorneys of Chicago’s Pro-Life Action League filed an appeal with the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals against an April lower court decision permitting any form of fetal experimentation. Stated League director Joseph Scheidler:  “If this decision were not appealed, Dr. Mengele-type of experimentation on live human subjects would be allowed to be performed on unborn children.  A civilized society cannot allow such [...]

“Not my Kid!”: A Satanism story

David is not his real name, but it could easily be.  He lives with his mother and his father, but he could live with a single parent or relatives.  He has a brother and a sister, but he could just as easily be an only child or one of many.  He lives in New Brunswick, but his story could be that of [...]

Poland’s Senate bans abortion

Rome. The Senate of the Polish Parliament voted by a large majority, September 29, to approve a legislative proposal which will punish abortionists with up to two years imprisonment.  The proposal, entitled “Law to protect Conceived life” now goes to the lower chamber, or Sejm, for study and approval before being signed into law by the  President.  If enacted, it will replace [...]

Rae: “Access to abortion critical to Government”

Premier Bob Rae declared in mid-October that “access… [to abortion] is critical to our government.”  Thus did the anti-life program of Ontario’s NDP government start with a bang. Within two weeks of assuming power, the Premier and several of his new Cabinet ministers fired off warning shots to leave abortion on demand alone. On October 13, the Minister responsible for Women’s Issues, [...]

‘Sex in the dark” ads rapped

In preparation for AIDS Awareness Week at the University of Toronto (Oct. 15-21, 1990) the Ontario Ministry of Health placed full-page ads in the student newspapers asking, “Are you having sex in the dark?’ Ignorance is far from bliss, the message below said; enlightenment means using condoms, “Not occasionally, not usually, but always.” “If you’re embarrassed about buying condoms,” the ad declared, [...]
