THE MONTH IN REVIEW

After years of struggling for any kind of media exposure, the B.C. Family Coalition Party has finally gained some notoriety outside the pro-life circle. To the surprise of many, Bill Vander Zalm showed up as a paid-in-full member at the party’s year-end conference. The very controversial Vander Zalm served as B.C.’s premier for one term before running into a myriad of personal [...]

Defending horses’ rights: Animal rights group seeks injunction to prevent the abortion of unwanted horse

An animal rights group has come out against abortion – for horses. The Toronto Star reports that a Sorocoba, Sao Paulo horse owner wants his prize horse Luna to have an abortion because the mare is carrying offspring of a stallion with no pedigree. Luna, a $20,000 prize mare, became pregnant when Prince broke into her paddock. Her owner, Daniel Mariani does [...]

Wishful thinking: Why isn’t Morgentaler in jail today?

I often ask why Henry Morgentaler isn’t in jail today for the murder of thousands of unborn babies. He had been convicted of performing illegal abortions and jailed for the same offences in Quebec, why not Ontario? Eighteen Ontario pro-lifers would not be on trial today if justice had been served and Morgentaler had been convicted. I feel that our problems would [...]

B.C. counsellors sentenced

A very broad interpretation of the terms “watching and besetting” has landed three Vancouver activists with suspended jail sentences for their pro-life counseling in front of Everywoman’s Health Centre. Christine Hendrix and Gordon Watson were handed a 15-day suspended sentence for breaking an injunction outside the abortion clinic. John Hof, president of Campaign Life Coalition B.C., said one of the picketers was [...]

B.C. activists must pay

John Hof and six other B.C. families have grudgingly agreed to pay their outstanding court costs to Everywoman’s Health Clinic. The costs have been outstanding since 1990 when Hof and the families refused to pay the costs, as ordered by the B.C. Court of Appeal saying it would be in violation of their consciences. Nothing happened until December 1993 when the Everywoman [...]

The defence rests: Tension mounts as injunction hearing closes

An Ontario judge will determine the fate of the pro-life movement in this province as he decides whether to grant the government’s request for a temporary injunction prohibiting pro-life picketing and counseling. At issue is whether citizens have the right to voice their pro-life views near where abortions are taking place as well as at the offices and homes of abortionists. The [...]
