The person behind the headline: the life of Tracy Lynn Latimer

Tracy Lynn Latimer (1981-1993) had a life beyond her immediate family. She had friends at school and in a group home. Tracy, 12, loved music, could smile laugh and move her hands. She related to other children. Tracy lived with cerebral palsy which is caused by a lack of oxygen to the brain at birth. The Globe and Mail's court reporter David [...]

Much rides on Latimer sentence

(Ed note: Although a second trial found Saskatchewan farmer Robert Latimer guilty of second-degree murder in the death of his disabled daughter, Tracy, there is concern over the jury's recommendation of leniency. Does it indicate a two-tier justice system, one for the able-bodied and another for the disabled?) The disabled community is speaking out and the right-to-die movement is getting nervous. "A [...]

Shooting forces new anti-violence call

The shooting of a Winnipeg doctos has once again forced the pro-life community to reiterate its stand against all forms of violence. Abortionist Jack Fainman was shot in the shoulder in his home November 11. As of mid-November, Fainman was in stable condition in hospital and under police guard. Although police to date have no leads as to the identity of the [...]

Senate bill supports conscience legislation

A bill introduced in the Canadian Senate is going to bat for health care workers who object to morally objectional medical practices such as abortion and assisted suicide. Pro-life Senator Stanley Haidasz of Toronto introduced Bill S-7 November 19. The bill would amend the Criminal Code to protect health workers from coercion in assisting in procedures posing avoidable risk to human life. [...]

Pro-life signs become touchy issue

"Wonderful ... made my day. I feel terrific." Those words from Campaign Life Coalition's Rosemary Connell and Anne Marie Tomlins after the pair organized a highly-visible, pro-life witness outside Ross Memorial Hospital in Lindsay, Ontario. The November 22nd vigil drew about 60 people of all ages to the central Ontario community. Front and centre, the hospital's so-called abortion ‘services' but also freedom [...]

Decision in favor of life is couple’s Christmas gift

Their first Christmas together as husband and wife should be an interesting one for Anna and Ajay. The couple and their six-month-old daughter Alexandra (Sasha) are among the growing number of people who give proof of the positive, life-affirming work being done by Toronto's Aid of Women service. When Anna, 20, and Ajay, 37, met and married last spring, they looked forward [...]

Conscience law needed now

With news of health care restructuring and hospital mergers foremost in the thinking of many provincial governments, it is high time for a closer examination of the whole issue of conscience legislation. At present, health care workers who have moral or religious objections to procedures such as abortion, medical experimentation or treatment withdrawal, have little recourse in law. Several groups, including Campaign [...]

Truth breakthrough on pro-life wish list

It is customary at this time of year to sound a note of celebration for the birth of the One who overcame sin and death by His death on the Cross. In personal terms, it is a time for taking stock of things, appreciating one's blessings and perhaps giving more thought to family, friends and the community at large. For pro-life, pro-family [...]
