Interim staff

The Interim newspaper and Campaign Life Coalition are joining forces to offer women in crisis pregnancies an opportunity for a vacation at the Springwater Christian Campground near Barrie, Ontario.

Women who have recently given birth, or those who are nearing delivery, are eligible for an expenses-paid holiday at the 40-acre Springwater camp. July 14-20 is the scheduled date for the Springwater holiday.

Featured in the December issue of The Interim, Springwater is a family-oriented campground offering swimming, nature trails, a trailer park, sports and an assortment of outdoor activity. To encourage a healthy family atmosphere, owners Victor and Marilyn Carvalho have imposed a no-smoking, no-drinking policy at Springwater. While the movement has no doubt cost Springwater some potential customers, it has earned the camp a reputation as a positive, Christian-oriented, recreational facility.

Springwater is also the site of regular Catholic Family Weekend events, and it hosts a number of pro-life gatherings throughout the year. The Carvalhos often provide the site free of charge to pro-life organizations throughout Ontario.

The campaign was inspired as a joint project between Aid to Women and Campaign Life Coalition.  Organizers believe the project is one more way to put pro-life ideals into action by rewarding women who have made a sacrifice in favor of life.

Often women in crisis pregnancies face tremendous stress in preparing for the birth of their child. The decision to avoid abortion in favor of life should be rewarded with an opportunity for quiet and relaxation. It is one more way of saluting women who have made a life-affirming decision.

The Springwater project will depend on the generous support of Interim readers. Please send a donation care of The Interim and we will ensure it is used in aid of the Springwater project. Readers can also suggest names of women in crisis pregnancies, or those who have recently given birth to a child, and we will gladly consider them for the holiday.

“We will do all that we can to ensure that the mothers and mothers-to-be have a restful and memorable stay here,” said Victor Carvalho.

He added that all mothers coming for the holiday will receive a complementary receiving blanket as a gift from the campground.

Women taking part will stay in trailers situated throughout the campground. The holiday includes three meals per day. The menu includes regular meals, vegetarian dishes and special orders, if possible.

Although the Carvalhos are offering special discounts for the project, there is considerable expense involved. Estimated costs run as high as $480 per mother and child.
