Justice plays catch-up to the realities of today

If there is anything of value to come out of the recent decision in the Brenda Drummond case, it is that it has at least got more people thinking about the humanity of the unborn child. To be sure, pro-lifers are distressed and saddened by Madam Justice Inger Hansen’s decision not to proceed with charges against the Ottawa-area postal employee who shot [...]

Another PP –abortion link

The Pro-Life Society of British Columbia has learned that the national president of the Planned Parenthood Federation of Canada –a long time activist of Planned Parenthood of British Columbia –is helping run a Vancouver abortuary, and possibly conducting her Planned Parenthood work out of a taxpayer-funded hospital. Barbara Hestrin is the Program Director at the British Columbia Women’s Hospital and Health Centre [...]

Kevorkian not off the hook

A suburban Detroit prosecutor has dropped all assisted suicide charges against Dr. Jack Kevorkian and two assistants. But a prosecutor in another country is not giving up. The charges stemmed from 10 suicides last year and were filed by former Oakland County Prosecutor Richard Thompson against Kevorkian, psychologist Dr. Georges Reding and Neal Nicol. The newly elected prosecutor, David Gorcyca, says his [...]

A Linda Gibbons ‘love-in’ precedes latest arrest

It was, as Christian activist Ken Campbell called it, a “Linda love-in.” About 50 supporters gathered at downtown Toronto’s Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church the evening of January 17 to pay tribute to Linda Gibbons. The Diminutive grandmother of four had been released earlier that day from her latest prison term for challenging Ontario’s temporary injunction against pro-life activity within 20 meters of [...]

Leaders consider merits of referenda

Pro-life leaders on both sides of the border are lukewarm to the use of referenda to determine moral questions, including constitutional protection for unborn children. The question arose late last fall when Reform party leader Preston Manning spoke in favour of a law allowing a national referendum on issues such as abortion and euthanasia. Manning’s stand generated wide debate in pro-life circles. [...]

New Interim Column to focus on young adults

The Interim plans to feature semi-regular columns by students and young adults covering a variety of pro-life issues. It is expected the young adult/ student columns will appear every second month. U.S. Supreme Court begins hearings on assisted suicide

Washington –The U.S. Supreme Court January 8 appeared deeply skeptical about proposals to create a new constitutional right for terminally ill Americans to get the help of a doctor in committing suicide. During arguments on the right-to-die controversy, the high court did not take a firm position on the issue, but several justices expressed reservations about overturning existing state bans on doctor-assisted [...]

Lessons from clinic ‘bombings’

Explosions near abortuaries in three U.S. cities in late January led to the usual denunciation of “anti-abortion” violence despite a lack of evidence the pro-lifers were in any way involved in the blasts. A January 16 explosion damaged a building housing the Atlanta Northside Family Planning Services, a clinic where abortions are performed, in the Atlanta suburb of Sandy Springs. About an [...]

Broderick to defend Linda Gibbons

Pro-life political prisoner Linda Gibbons has added a powerful voice in her one-woman challenge of the Ontario injunction against pro-life demonstrations. New York defense attorney John Broderick, best known for defending Joan Andrews and other Operation Rescue participants in the late-1980s, officially joined Gibbons’ defense in early January. Broderick also gained a reputation by defending several members of the Lambs of Christ, [...]

Decision shows clear need of new legislation for unborn

Pro-lifers must continue to lobby federal politicians if the unborn in this country are to have rights at all. That message came through loud and clear after a 28-year-old Ontario woman walked to freedom two days before Christmas after being charged with shooting her unborn son with a pellet gun. Brenda Drummond, a postal worker in Carleton Place, south of Ottawa, was [...]

Pennell stays on as FCP head

Don Pennell has been named interim leader of Ontario's Family Coalition Party for at least another year. Delegates at the FCP's recent annual meeting in Hamilton approved the move after St. Catharines, Ont. Resident Tristan Emmanuel, who was slated to take over the party's full-time leadership, withdrew his candidacy. Pennell had resigned as full-time leader earlier this year. Emmanuel had run federally [...]
