A Toronto Indy post on a pro-life website?

Our columnist Rick McGinnis has blogged extensively about the Toronto Honda Indy and while that might not be something most of our readers care about, this should be: It was Sunday morning and I needed to get to mass, but as I was covering the Indy races all weekend, it looked like there wouldn't be time. Luckily, I'd noticed signs all over [...]

Defending feminism (that is, the right kind of feminism)

In the midst of writing about the language of discussing abortion, I found an article on The Atlantic that caught my eye. Christina Hoff Sommers, an author and former philosophy professor who is probably best known for her 1995 book Who Stole Feminism?, offers another critique of the modern feminist movement. Only 23 percent of women and 16 percent of men are willing to [...]

Rathgeber resignation from Tories highlights role of MP

Edmonton-St. Albert MP Brent Rathgeber On June 5, MP Brent Rathgeber (Edmonton-St. Albert) announced he would resign from the Conservative caucus. The immediate cause of Rathgeber’s decision was the government and his colleagues opposition to his private member’s bill that sought to disclose the expenses and salaries of government bureaucrats and CBC employees earning more than $188,000; Conservative members of [...]

Class action suits follow birth control deaths

At least 23 Canadians have died since 2007 as a result of using drug company Bayer’s Yaz and Yasmin birth control pills. Most of the women, according to Health Canada documents, died suddenly due to blood clots, the youngest being 14 years old. More than half of the 23 fatalities were women under 26 years old. One of the victims, 18-year-old Miranda [...]

Quebec proposes end-run around federal euthanasia prohibition

The Quebec government has tabled a bill proposing to legalize euthanasia after several years of debate and consultation. The Belgium-style Bill 52, “An Act respecting end-of-life care,” introduced on June 12 by Véronique Hivon, minister for social services and youth protection, would define “end-of-life care” as “palliative care provided to persons at the end of their lives, including terminal palliative sedation, and [...]

Covering Morgentaler’s passing

How to cover the passing of Canada’s most prominent abortionist was subject of much discussion in our offices, and during our editorial advisory board meeting. This is a major story and we had to give it prominent coverage. Henry Morgentaler is this country’s most famous abortionist, who testified before the House justice committee in 1967 calling for liberalization of Canada’s abortion law, [...]

No tears

Michael Coren Journalist for Life It’s been a while now since Morgentaler died. He was 90-years-old, and it’s always shocked me that some of the more evil people in our world live such long lives. He claimed to have been in a death camp during the Holocaust, but certainly since that time enjoyed a life composed mostly of wealth, comfort, [...]

Morgentaler dead at age 90

Pro-lifers says his true legacy is millions of dead babies Abortionist Henry Morgentaler Pro-lifers reacted to the news that Canadian abortionist Henry Morgentaler died by reiterating they continue to pray for the man personally responsible for killing tens of thousands of babies in the womb. For decades, Canadian pro-lifer leaders have prayed for Morgentaler’s conversion. Jim Hughes, national president of Campaign [...]

Death comes for the abortionist

And so, at the age of 90, Henry Morgentaler has died in his bed, an old man and full of years. Each death is a tragedy, a kind of promise broken with the mystery of life, and we at The Interim mourn Morgentaler’s passing. His life was precious; every life is precious. But, upon the grave of one who left so many [...]

Is it possible to never be a human fetus?

Originally, today's blog post was going to examine the tendencies of some radical feminists to insist that abortion should be universally celebrated, instead of reluctantly embraced. However, I've read a number of articles recently that refute this idea, and I'm not sure I have anything new or enlightening to add to the conversation.  Instead, I would like to highlight a paper written by [...]

On abortion, U.S. more permissive than Europe

Do American liberals consider Europe wrong and extreme on abortion? Consider what Jon A. Shields says at The Weekly Standard blog: The American left loves Western European democracies for their cultural sensibilities and for their policies on everything from crime to health care. One policy area where you won’t hear American liberals cite the European example, though, is abortion. The reason is simple: [...]

Abortion limits by state

The Washington Post has a chart of the states and limits on abortion, including at which point abortion is "prohibited" as well as ultrasound and counseling requirements, treating abortuaries the same as other surgical facilities, and  the availability of taxpayer funding. I would like to see a similar list produced by a pro-life group that provides the asterisks  for the limits (rape, incest, [...]

Questions persist about Fr. Gravel

Raymond Gravel Questions abound regarding Fr. Raymond Gravel, the Quebec priest and former Bloc Quebecois MP who is suing LifeSiteNews.com. Questions, but no answers. It all stems from a few basic facts on which there is general agreement. On June 29, 1986 Raymond Gravel was ordained a Catholic priest for the diocese of Joliette, Quebec. In 2006, Gravel plunged into [...]
