Do not trust the Senate ‘compromise’ on abortion funding

As LifeSiteNews.com reports, pro-abortion politicians are praising the so-called compromise language on abortion funding within the Senate health care reform bill. Why would pro-abortion politicians support funding restrictions when they went over-the-top in their rejection of Stupak-Pitts? Because the restrictions aren't real? LSN reports: Rep. Capps, another 100% NARAL-approved legislator and author of the House's phony compromise, praised Reid's language and noted that [...]

Christmas stuff for sale — proceeds go to pro-life

The Campaign Life Coalition Christmas catalogue is advertised here at TheInterim.com. For sale are Christmas cakes (makes a nice gift for grandma, but I don't know anyone under 50 who eats them), CDs of Christmas music (very nice, really), Christmas cards (with religious art on them), and day planners for 2010 (who doesn't need a calendar and/or day planner). You can mail [...]

Misreading a poll

Oz, I think you're right that Americans want fewer abortions but the CNN/Opinion Research poll numbers don't reveal that. Unless the "few" circumstances that respondents support were spelled out, I'm not sure we can surmise what the respondents think are permissible limits and whether most abortions fall within those confines. That said, I think most Americans would be aghast that there are [...]

The real poll takeaway: most Americans want less abortion

Paul, when you read the full poll results you mentioned earlier, the most improtant finding is not about abortion funding but that most Americans are uncomfortable with abortion and want much less of it. Asked if they wanted abortion legal under any circumstances, certain circumstances, or illegal in all circumstances, respondents replied 26-50-23. So while 76% want abortion legal at least some of the time, 73% oppose the status quo [...]

Most Americans want abortion funding ban

CNN has the story. Here is the original CNN/Opinion Research Coperation poll. Takeaway point(s): A CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey released Wednesday morning indicates that 61 percent of the public opposes using public money for abortions for women who can not afford the procedure, with 37 percent in favor of allowing the use of federal funds. And by a 51 percent to 45 percent [...]

Ben Nelson is/is not the Senate’s Bart Stupak

Earlier this week, CNN reported that Senator Ben Nelson (D, Neb.) was willing to settle for language that falls far short of the Stupak-Pitts amendment in the Senate version of health care reform. Jill Stanek is reporting that Democrats for Life tells us that Nelson and Senator Bob Casey Jr. (D, Penn.) will not settle for anything less than Stupak, because "both ... [...]

What Ruth Marcus doesn’t say

In the WaPo column by Ruth Marcus mentioned in the Assorted Links this morning, what is most noticeable is what isn't in the column. Marcus goes to great length to appear fair and balanced by noting three "fallacies", two by pro-lifers and one by pro-choicers, and therefore moderate. She concludes by appearing to be less fanatical about abortion than she really is [...]

Wimpy conservative gives into political correctness

The Boston Globe reports that Doug Lambert, a conservative New Hampshire radio host and blogger, called a homosexual Democrat some derogatory names and Dems and gay activists demand an apology and get it. Here is the groveling apology. Of course, it didn't save his job. Lambert says: For those who do not know, I no longer have my position as the Thursday columnist [...]

Why pro-lifers must oppose Obamacare

Two reasons, really: 1) rationing, 2) taxpayer funding of abortion. The former doesn't get enough attention, so it is worth considering this from the National Right to Life Committee, which explains why H.R. 3962 will lead to rationing: The National Right to Life Committee has long warned that over-promising and under-funding is a recipe for future rationing. That is, if a bill [...]

Double standard on religion and politics

William Donohue, president of the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights, recently took aim at the pro-abortion critics of the Catholic Church's supposed influence on American politics and those who complain about an impending theocracy: The following is a partial list of religious groups that want abortion coverage in the health care bill: Rabbinical Assembly, Women’s League for Conservative Judaism, Episcopal [...]
