Judge not lest…

No other part of the Gospel is as challenging, or as difficult, or as important, as these words are for people doing pro-life work. The call to be non-judgmental lies at the very heart of Jesus’ message. As the Messiah, he spent time with and dined with the notorious sinners of his day, including prostitutes and tax collectors. At the same time, [...]

Strong family, strong Quebec

Quebec It has been said, “As the family goes, so goes the nation.” Never a truer word has been said about Quebec. The Vanier Institute of the Family recently published an article on Quebec’s plummeting marriage rates. Only about one third of Quebec men and slightly more women, about 37 percent, are likely to marry. This is an unprecedented drop from a [...]

Editorial – What to do about Pat?

The emergence of Pat Buchanan in this year’s U.S. Republican Party Leadership race has a special significance for pro-lifers. By the sheer force of his views, Buchanan has brought the abortion issue front and centre. Described as a rogue Republican, Buchanan is considered by some a serious threat to party unity. His success in the early primaries has befuddled many political observers, [...]

QUESTION: Our 15-year-old son literally seethes with hostility at home

—at his mother and me, at his sister, and at the world. Believe me, we have done nothing to provoke this anger, and I don’t understand what has caused it. DR. DOBSON: At least part of the answer to that question can be explained by the “in-between” stages of teenagers. They live in an era when they enjoy neither the privileges of [...]

Detained 42 days in psych ward, activist plans suit

A Colorado man’s unauthorized detention in a psychiatric hospital was the direct result of his opposition to abortion, say several U.S. pro-life officials. Kenneth Scott of Denver, a long-time pro-life activist, was arrested December 20 and spent the next 42 days in the Boulder Community Hospital psychiatric ward. He was released without conditions January 30. Scott plans to file a lawsuit against [...]

CFCA has spread through more than 23 nations

Images from the Third World flash across the TV screen followed by a plea for help to sponsor a child. The sponsoring agency is either secular or evangelical. Moved by what you see, and a desire to help, you take down the number and wonder why the Catholic church is not offering the opportunity to sponsor a child. This was the experience [...]

Book’s non-confrontational approach opens new doors

“Educators have been fed misinformation from higher sources who have hidden agendas. These are the facts. This is the truth about the risks.” If you want ammunition to show the school board that sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) are on the rise, and chastity, not the condom, is the answer, you have it in Dr. Rosemarie Gilbert’s resource booklet, Adolescent Sexuality. “I want [...]

Cartoonist’s subject is no laughing matter

“There’s nothing funny about porn,” says artist and child therapist Anita Oliveira, but that didn’t stop her from creating Watch Out, a comic book to fight pornography. If you think only adult men are into porn wake up. The largest users of porn are boys 12 to 17 years old. To reach this group the comic format is ideal. “All my problems [...]

One night in Chinatown

Alan Keyes, the strongly pro-life Republican candidate for President of the United States summed up the abortion issue recently when he thundered that there is no right to do wrong. The Canadian Abortion Rights League (CARAL) held a banquet on a cold and blustery evening in a restaurant in Toronto’s Chinatown to honour Norma Scarborough, a former school secretary, and Michelle Landsberg [...]
