Condom crusade under way

An incredible sex education and pro-contraception propaganda crusade is sweeping North America and Great Britain as the result of the AIDS epidemic. In the United States, the Congress-chartered National Research Council has called for free condoms wherever “teenage boys congregate.”  It claims there’s “little evidence” for the “view” that contraceptives promote “early sexual activity.”  The panel of “experts” believe “that the strategy [...]

MPPs hear about “gay rights”

The media blitz surrounding the Ontario legislative debate on Bill 7 (an amendment to the Ontario Human Rights Code naming “sexual orientation” as a prohibited ground of discrimination) last November and December downplayed the genuine concern of those opposed to the legislation that it would jeopardize such organizations as Big Brothers, and the rights of schools to refuse employment to [...]

Pro-life is “inappropriate” or how the ministry of transportation stole Christmas.

All I wanted for Christmas was a licence plate. My own personalized licence plate. One that said “PRO-LYF.”  I figured since the car was used for pro-life business 90 per cent of the time anyway it might as well say so. I also figured out that since Ontario will only let you use six letters in your licence plate that [...]

Canadians complacent about AIDS

Health and Welfare cautions that “There is continuing complacency among Canadians about AIDS.”  The warning came with the release of the 1985 statistics foe Sexually Transmitted diseases (STDs) showing an encouraging overall decrease in rates for such diseases as gonorrhea and syphilis. However, complications from these infections, such as pelvic inflammatory disease, can lead to tubal scarring, ectopic [...]

Banning extra billing reduces abortions

Much ink is being spilled in the provincial and national press about fewer abortions in Alberta. Headline seekers such as Henry Morgentaler have come to town (Calgary), officiously offering “help” to resolve the problem.   Actually, there is no problem. Alberta Health Minister Mary Moore is merely enforcing the prohibition against extra-billing, refusing to allow exceptions for abortionists. He is [...]

Quebec petition

Coalition for Life- Quebec has announced that a petition containing 120,676 signatures was presented to the National Assembly, on December 19th, 1986, by Mr. Robert Middlemiss, member of the Quebec assembly for Pontiac.   The 120,676 petitioners request that the law concerning abortion be respected according to article 251 of the Criminal Code. They also ask that illegal abortion clinics [...]

Socreds for life

Socreds for life, a newly formed pro-life lobby group within the Social Credit Party in British Columbia, was well received by delegates at last year’s leadership convention at whistler. The group, consisting of 15 Party supporters and delegates and organized by Campaign Life B.C., handed out flyers and buttons, and spoke to delegates.   The flyer, entitled “A Reasonable Proposal,” highlighted [...]

Progress made for pro-life unity

The three national pro-life groups, Alliance for Life, Coalition for Life and campaign Life, met in Ottawa last December to discuss further initiatives aimed at unifying the pro-life groups across Canada.   The meeting came at the end of a year during which all three groups had worked closely together. The two political groups, Campaign Life and Coalition for Life, [...]

The Editorial: When truth becomes hate literature

When a Catholic priest is fired as editor of a church-sponsored magazine, the first reaction is that it is a matter of interest only to Catholics and not a case of censorship. Perhaps that is why the situation of Father Albert Lalonde in Saskatchewan has not received major publicity and why the editorialists of our national newspapers have not [...]

NDP nominates gay activist

Toronto:  Gay activist and admitted homosexual John Campey won the NDP nomination in the new provincial riding of St. George-St. David in Toronto. The riding has a sizeable homosexual community. Campey, 29, took the vote 59-25 over his only opponent, lawyer Harry Kopyto. The NDP, the party most firmly committed to abortion on demand, both in Ontario and nation-wide, also [...]

Editor fired for publishing truth

Pressure from human rights organizations and homosexual rights activists appears to be responsible for the firing of the editor of a Roman Catholic family magazine based in Saskatchewan.   Controversy erupted when editor Father Albert Lalonde published “A Psychoanalytic Look at Homosexuality and AIDS” by a respected American psychiatrist who has written hundreds of articles on the subject, [...]

Body politic

Toronto:  After 14 years of publication, “Canada’s magazine for gay liberation Body Politic, announced it will end publication with its February 1987 issue. By almost any standards of normal behaviour, Body Politic’s articles, photos, and illustrations were obscene. Yet, it managed to beat the charge of distributing indecent material through the mail in a five-year court battle related to the article [...]

Interim changes

We have a new look this month; with six columns per page instead of four. This new look is the best for advertising purposes and, equally importantly, it increases the number of words that can be fitted on a page. With six columns, we can fit more information and news into the same space.   Father Alphonse de Valk is [...]

School nurses ignore parents’ rights

Public health nurses working in high schools in Montreal have been helping students to have abortions during school hours, without informing their parents. Reporters from La Presse recently discovered that the practice has been going on for some time and that the nurses claim that a section of the Public Health Safety Act gives minors of 14 or [...]
